- Ensure fires are built within the confines of the grateand are not over-packed.
- Use only suitable firelighters and kindling and follow manufacturer instructions.
- Ensure smoke alarms are installed, operational, and tested regularly.
Fuel Handling and Storage for Fire Safety
- Store solid fuels in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.
- Keep fuel off concrete floors and away from external walls where condensation may form.
- Inspect packaging before use and do not use fuel that appears damaged, damp, or compromised.
- Keep fuel away from sources of heat, ignition, or naked flames while in storage.
Important Notice
Solid fuels, including wood logs and briquettes, can occasionally produce embers or small burning fragments, particularly in open fires. This is a known characteristic of solid fuel combustion and reinforces the importance of using appropriate fire guards and maintaining safe clearances around the fireplace.
